History

Madison County is situated near the center of the Great Lakes Region. It was established in 1823, and was named in honor of James Madison, fourth President of the United States. The county seat is Anderson. The city is named in honor of Chief William Anderson. Anderson is home to the historic Paramount Theatre, the Gruenwald Home, and Anderson University. The world headquarters for The Church of God is located in Anderson.
